Notice about Firewood and the Emerald Ash Borer

Just a friendly reminder that our policy still stands and will be enforced that there will be no outside firewood allowed to be brought into the campground.  This is in a continued effort to prevent the Ash Borer Beetle from infesting our trees.  Thank you for your support and cooperation.

To make sure you do not make the problem worse or put trees at risk, please buy your firewood locally at or near your camping destination. Most parks, including the Double J Campground, provide firewood for purchase, so take advantage of this service. Please make sure to burn all of your firewood on-site and do not leave any for other campers. Thank you for helping to preserve our forests and trees. You MAY NOT bring in firewood that has been harvested from area properties or pallets.

Forests are being threatened and you can help protect them. The emerald ash borer (EAB) is an exotic beetle that has killed millions of ash trees in the northern, central, and eastern regions of the US, including Illinois. The spread of EAB and other destructive forest pests has been directly related to the movement of wood products, especially firewood. Illinois is included in the federal EAB quarantine that restricts the movement of ash wood and hardwood firewood. More information about EAB and the quarantine can be found on the Internet.
